In the material storage and conveying systems of mining, coking, power generation, and other industrial sectors, coal bunkers, hoppers, and chutes are core pieces of equipment. These components are constantly subjected to high-intensity abrasion and friction from ores and coal. At the same time, the risk of fire caused by dust accumulation and friction-generated heat remains a major operational safety challenge. Traditional linings—such as cast stone or ordinary plastic sheets—are no longer suitable for such demanding conditions. The growing adoption of flame-retardant UPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) sheets offers a new and viable solution for upgrading coal bunker linings, effectively addressing the industry’s long-standing difficulty of balancing wear resistance with fire protection.
Conventional lining materials often have significant drawbacks. Metal linings are prone to corrosion, generate high noise levels, and suffer from material sticking and blockage. Ordinary polymer sheets lack sufficient wear resistance and have a short service life. Moreover, most do not have flame-retardant properties, making them unable to meet industrial safety standards. Frequent replacements and repairs not only increase maintenance costs but also disrupt production continuity. As a modified, next-generation industrial material, flame-retardant UPE sheets retain the inherent characteristics of UHMWPE—excellent self-lubrication, resistance to scouring, and high impact strength—which fundamentally reduce material adhesion, buildup, and blockage, while significantly extending the service life of the lining.
Safety performance is a key highlight of flame-retardant UPE sheets. Through a specialized modification process, the sheets achieve a standard flame-retardant rating. They do not ignite or support combustion when exposed to fire, effectively mitigating fire hazards caused by dust or friction from materials, thereby addressing a critical safety gap in coal bunker operations. In addition, their lightweight nature, resistance to acids and alkalis, and strong adaptability make them suitable for various enclosed and humid hopper conditions.
