UHMWPE Wear Liners: Withstanding Thousand-Ton Coal Impacts Without Cracking
Time : Jul 16, 2026

In power plant coal handling systems, the continuous dropping of raw coal and gangue brings intense impact and friction. Traditional steel liners often suffer from dents, cracking, and rusting over time, leading to frequent replacements that disrupt production. Thanks to its unique material structure, the Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) wear liner has become the mainstream choice for coal handling equipment.

UHMWPE wear liners boast exceptional energy absorption and cushioning capabilities. When facing high-frequency, heavy-duty impact from falling coal, they effectively disperse the impact force, preventing stress concentration and subsequent cracking. Compared to ordinary plastics, carbon steel, and manganese steel, UHMWPE features a significantly lower friction coefficient, which drastically reduces wear and tear from sliding coal and rocks. Additionally, the material is inherently self-lubricating and non-stick, which prevents coal slime buildup and minimizes blockages or hopper sticking.

Long-term operational data shows that under the same impact intensity, while steel liners may need repair or replacement within just a few months, UHMWPE wear liners can extend service life several times over. The material is non-magnetic and rust-proof; in the damp, dusty environment of a power plant coal gallery, it will not corrode or flake off to contaminate the raw coal. Its lightweight nature also reduces the overall load on the equipment, allowing for installation and maintenance without the need for heavy lifting machinery, thereby cutting down on equipment downtime.
