Polyethylene Crane Outrigger Pads: The Cornerstone of Lifting Operations
Time : 30/03/2026

In various heavy lifting operations such as construction engineering, bridge hoisting, and wind power installation, polyethylene crane outrigger pads are indispensable safety components. Their core function is to distribute the concentrated load on the crane outriggers, prevent ground subsidence, ensure equipment stability, and avoid safety hazards.

These pads are primarily made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), manufactured using a compression molding process. The surface features diamond or grid anti-slip textures, rounded edges, and a nylon handle rope, balancing anti-slip properties with portability. Common sizes range from 400×400mm to 1000×1000mm, with thicknesses from 30-100mm, and rated load capacities covering 10-180 tons. For large-tonnage operations, they can be stacked.

Compared to traditional steel plates and wooden pads, polyethylene pads offer significant advantages. With a density only 1/7 to 1/8 that of steel, its lightweight design allows for single-person handling without additional mechanical assistance. It boasts high compressive strength and toughness, bending rather than breaking under overload, effectively converting outrigger pressure into surface load and reducing ground pressure. Furthermore, it is acid and alkali resistant, corrosion resistant, non-absorbent, rust-free, and has a long service life outdoors. It also absorbs impact vibration and reduces operational noise.

When using polyethylene crane outrigger pads, it is crucial to ensure they are placed horizontally and flush against the ground. Do not place them on gravel or debris. When stacking multiple pads, align them to avoid uneven stress. The selection of the pad should be based on the crane's tonnage and the ground's load-bearing capacity to match the size and thickness. Regularly inspect for cracks and deformation and replace as needed.
