HDPE/UHMWPE Ground Protection Mats: The Ideal Solution for Temporary Road Access
Time : 11/04/2026

In construction, mining operations, emergency rescue and other scenarios, the demands for temporary road paving and heavy-duty equipment support are becoming increasingly stringent. Polyethylene ground mats, with their outstanding performance, have become an ideal alternative to traditional steel plates and wooden planks. Made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), these mats combine lightweight durability, environmental friendliness and multiple other advantages, making them widely applicable to various complex working conditions.

The standout advantage of polyethylene ground mats is their exceptional combination of light weight and high load-bearing capacity. At just 1/8 the density of steel, standard-size mats can be handled and installed by one or two workers without heavy lifting machinery, greatly improving construction efficiency. Meanwhile, they deliver excellent compressive performance, with a single mat supporting 30–80 tons, stably bearing heavy machinery such as excavators and cranes while effectively dispersing ground pressure.

Furthermore, these mats feature superior weather and corrosion resistance, operating reliably in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 80°C. They are impervious to rain, oil, grease and acid-base substances, resisting rust and rot in harsh environments such as mudflats and saline-alkali lands, with a service life of 5–8 years.

Common sizes of polyethylene ground mats include 2000mm×1000mm and 2400mm×1200mm, with thicknesses varying from 16mm to 30mm — load capacity increases with thickness. Their interlocking edge design enables fast splicing and secure locking.

These mats serve a wide range of applications, including temporary access roads for construction and municipal projects, off-site workways for mining and oilfields, emergency rescue access routes, and temporary parking lots for large events. They ensure safe passage while protecting original ground surfaces from crushing and damage.
