Want Your Crane Operation to Be Rock-Solid? Start with Polyethylene Crane Outrigger Pads
Time : Apr 25, 2026

In the working sites of cranes, hoists, and other heavy machinery, outrigger pads may seem insignificant, but they directly determine the safety and stability of the entire equipment. Traditional wooden or steel pads are gradually being phased out, replaced by ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) outrigger pads, which are becoming the mainstream choice in the industry.

The outstanding advantage of crane outrigger pads lies in their superior load-bearing capacity. For example, a pad with dimensions of 600×600×60mm can withstand a load of 28 to 40 tons per piece, sufficient for a 35-ton crane. Its excellent impact resistance allows it to "bend rather than break" under heavy pressure, offering far greater safety than brittle materials.

Lightweight and durable is another major highlight. Compared to steel pads, polyethylene crane outrigger pads weigh only about one-third as much and come with double carrying handles, allowing one person to move them easily. At the same time, they are non-absorbent, corrosion-resistant, and aging-resistant. They will not deform or gain weight even after long-term use in muddy, rainy, snowy, or chemically harsh environments, nor will they crack in winter.

When using polyethylene crane outrigger pads, three points must be noted: The ground must be flat and firm, avoiding support over cavities or soft soil; the outrigger disc must be completely centered, never pressed on the edge; the overall vehicle tilt must not exceed 3 degrees to prevent overturning.

A quality polyethylene crane outrigger pad is far more than just a "pad"—it is an amplifier of mechanics, distributing point loads from the outriggers over a larger area, protecting the ground, and stabilizing the entire vehicle. Choosing polyethylene crane outrigger pads means laying a solid foundation for every safe lifting operation.
